NOT IN MY HEART!

the gist of our lives right now: in the house constantly. getting over illnesses (addy, the walking pneumonia saga; wes, a cold; me a sinus & head cold; amelia, healthy but super fiesty). parents annoyed with the multitudes of toys everywhere. either mud or snow being tracked into the house & onto new clothes.

but the girls are still wonderful & lovable & always do something to lighten the mood. they love to play with each other, in fact, they tell us they actually love each other. amelia loves to sing. addy loves to dance.

yet, trying to focus on the good is difficult when we are stuck in this rut. lots of tantrums from both girls, me too tired from being sick (& consequently more sore than usual) to clean or cook or plan activities or bake or do much of anything beyond basic parenting.argh!

***

but the best is addy's line that she screamed to me yesterday, as she angrily kicked her closed door: JESUS IS NOT IN MY HEART ANYMORE. *KICK* MOMMY NOT IN MY HEART ANYMORE *KICK* JESUS IS NOT IN MY HEART ANYMORE *KICK* MOMMY NOT IN MY HEART ANYMORE *KICK*

you get the idea, she was very angry *smile*

she was supposed to be cleaning up her fairly small mess of toys in the playroom. i told her not to turn the tv on, but to clean up the mess. i check on her a few minutes later--quietly sneaking up the stiars--just to see her resting her head on griswold's belly, watching tv in the playroom. i just stood in the doorway until she noticed me, at which point she jumped up & immediately started to cry, knowing what was coming...a time out. & she just escalated from there, screaming & kicking me...thus the room time.

although frustrating, this tantrum was pretty humorous overall. but safe to say she didn't get to watch anymore tv. when i talked to her after she calmed down she gave me a big hug & asked me how her heart has room for everyone, for jesus & mommy & daddy & amelia. then she told me that i was in her heart but she wasn't sure if jesus could fit in there with me. i don't know if it was a squishy-lovey moment or a frantic search for words on my part, explaining to her about the idea of us being in her heart is not literal, just a figure of speech (& then explain the word literal to a 4 year old--doi! to me) but more of a picture of our feelings & such. ugh, what a conversation. & what a few terrible tantrum months recently. addy kicks, amelia hits--sweet, eh?!

so it goes.

  1. Isn't it amazing hearing what their brains come up with? I struggle to answer Rhys's questions, too, sometimes, but I just love watching how he puts together concepts and comes up with his own answers when the world doesn't make sense.
