*the good*
wes has had a mini vacation the past few days. it's like a snow day, but only it should be called power outage day. he works in delaware, a town 20-30 minutes north of columbus & most of this town was without power after the ice, rain, then wind & snow storms. they lost power sometime tuesday evening & still don't have power. so! he's home!
wednesday morning he was beyond grumpy about the whole situation but after a lunch he seemed to simmer down & enjoy the impromptu break. the best part is that he's letting me sleep in a bit, occupying the girls after they wake up. *luxurious!*

*the bad*
illness. we knew it was coming, with addy's level of intensity the past few weeks & then the minor fever. plus, it's winter & nearly every family will get sick at some point. i've been noticing this fever take over her behavior first, then her energy, & finally her desire to eat...then it spiked. so off to the doctor she went monday morning.
which leads us to...

*the ugly*
...our pediatricians. for the well baby checks & calling in prescriptions for repeat illnesses like croup, GERD, & ear infections--they have been great. but the one doctor who addy really likes, well, she's good but is very passive about some things. they ask that the girls have a fever (if it's low) for 10-14 days, which seems pretty extreme. i mean, i could go on & on about the frustrations & the only good that i can say is that we have a relationship with them. addy can be very touchy with doctors & mostly connects with female nurses or doctors. i mean, she's kicked the male doctor in the groin, so...but after she sees the female doctor she talks the whole way home about how she wants to be a doctor, just like her.
*sigh*
but they totally went too far recently. last year, addy had walking pneumonia & that is again what i suspected she had (either that or a urinary tract infection--b/c she kept having this minor pee accidents). anyway, the monday morning appointment they did some cultures to see if it was strep or a UTI. & then they made us wait a day--even though the in-house strep culture was negative--to get the official lab results, which was negative.
so then they sent us to a children's hospital urgent care/rehab ("close to home" facility) to have her blood drawn to test for mono or walking pneumonia. once a UTI was ruled out, i could've told them what she had. the best part is that they were closed tuesday & it took forever to get a call back...when i asked if they could just prescribe a general antibiotic to help her continuous 100-101 fever, he acted like i was a moron asking for the moon.
i mean, this was exactly like last year. exactly. & the doctor even pointed that out. so why make us go through all of this, wait for days, pay obscene amounts of money for this blood work...for what we all already knew?
& last year they told me walking pneumonia isn't contagious. i believed them b/c, well, i am no longer a fan of checking up on doctors orders via the internet (after researching my acoustic neuroma online & scaring the shit out of myself, well, that's where it lands someone: against online diagnosis) so i believed them, that WP isn't contagious.
they told wes again on monday morning & me again over the phone tuesday....so i asked the nurse at the urgent care what she thought about walking pneumonia being contagious or not. her response was pretty much "uh, most definitely". so we've exposed so many kids to this bacteria?!
at this point it's wednesday at 4:00 & the ped's haven't called to give the results. normally, they call in the morning with test results. so i call again & they're closed again! ("inclement weather" my ass--it's ohio, get used to it!). i then leave a not very nice message explaining that we need the results within 30 minutes or we will be taking addy to another doctor.
they call back in 5 minutes. it's the doctor whose accent i can hardly understand--which is fine, she's actually the doctor i respect most out of the practice. so i ask her about the conflicting messages: is it contagious or not?!
she tells me that it's not. i tell her that's not what i've found. she tells me it IS but not at the level of the flu or strep, that people have to be around the sick person for hours. as in playing together, living together. i tell her about the 10 month old i babysit & she said he wouldn't get it b/c they have to play together.
i mean, i could go on & on about this most ridiculous conversation. in the end, she summarizes it that it's not as bad as strep, that doctors just don't see it as something so serious.
i am so livid! hello, a sick kid for 2 weeks before she can be seen? then you drag it out for another 3 days while she's battling a 101 fever? then you tell me it's nothing to worry about after you've lied to me about it?!
anyway, long story short: we are switching pediatricians. & i am so glad addy kicked that one doc in the nads.

okay, enough complaining about the doctors.
i am hoping to get a video of addy doing the tootie ta dance. she loves it. she tells me she wants to be a dancer & dance around the world. cute cute cute!
as for amelia, she is such a big attitude in a small body--in a good way (well, sometimes in a bad way, but mostly good).
& the past week wes & i have put the cleaning hammer down (lol--not on ourselves necessarily). the girls have just been plain rotten about picking up after themselves & obeying so, well, their toy situation gets worse every time they tell us no or ignore requests or rules. which means, lots of time outs, lots of toys being put in 'storage' in the basement, lots of crying--but! it's working.
i'm not sure how we got to that point of them being so disobedient. probably just natural ebb & flow of kids. it's funny that i've been thinking to myself that they are acting like spoiled kids & then when we've gone out recently, to target or wherever--every time someone leans over to wes or i & tells us how well behaved our girls are.
