an answer from the kitty-cat scan (addy's words)

our lilac tree is in full bloom right now. even the peonies have buds on them. bluebells are blooming, the asparagus is ready to fern out...& we haven't even passed the last frost date yet. this early spring is just plain nuts.

i know i put on facebook & here that adeline had a cat scan almost two weeks ago...i didn't think through it all i guess, because when we got the results i didn't want to put it out to ya'all without telling all the grandparents first. and my in laws were on a cruise for a week. but now they know, so here it goes:

we have an answer to addy's hearing loss: enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome (EVA). here is a helpful link to nidcd/nih to explain. basically, she has nerve damage from fluid that goes the wrong way through an enlarged one-way aqueduct.

as far as hearing loss goes, this isn't such a bad cause, EVA. at some point, i'll insist that she name her enlarged aqueduct, of course. *smile* thankfully, hers is unilateral. but...her hearing will most likely continue to decrease over time. i'm thinking of wrapping her head in bubble wrap, some sort of helmet-like, allowing her to breathe of course.

so the recommendation is that she not play contact sports, one of which: soccer. her other love in life. after talking with her ENT, we decided that she will stay in soccer this year. really, head bumps or trauma at her age could occur while running around on a playground. & truly, is soccer at this age really that dangerous? the group of kids, some picking grass & dandelions.

we are only telling adeline an outline of EVA, some information that's very age appropriate. the older she gets, the more questions she'll have & the more we'll tell her. certainly, we will not sit her down today & say: before you learn to drive it would be a good idea to have a cochlear implant. right?

what's interesting is that now we have two of us in this house with left ear vestibular/hearing loss situations. addy's ENT said that's one in a million & they're not connected. i dunno!

also this past week i decided to do some cleaning, the likes of which hasn't been done in this house for a super long time. cleaning off ceiling fans: gross. dusting behind furniture: gross. washing kid prints off of windows: mysteriously gross.

this week i'm hoping to do the same to the 2nd floor...but i'm having serious motivation issues. really, who wants to have dust balls the size of my fist falling of their ceiling fan when the weather is so beautiful? when there are weeds to be pulled?!

and then i was stupid enough to buy hundreds of pounds of rock/stone pavers to line the front flower beds. i loaded them onto the cart thingy at home depot. i mostly pushed & pulled them to the register & i then loaded half of them into the trunk (then someone finally decided i might need help). then i unloaded them & moved them along the flower beds.

so yea, friday, saturday, sunday...i could barely move my shoulders. my arms refused to lift higher than my shoulders. ugh, i can be so stupid! & impatient. you know, why wait for wes to come along & help me when i could do it myself? i must learn my limits.

there have been some seriously hilarious things going on here, like amelia refusing to wear underwear unless its backwards. & easter, i need to get a few easter pictures up here... i'm sure i'll think of the stories i wanted to share soon enough, hopefully!
