still thinking of a title...

so. the past week or more have flown by. we've had more snow--a good moment in our house--& some grouchy kids but overall pretty good. adeline is the happiest when she gets to play outside in the snow.

& not a day goes by that adeline doesn't dance around the house, proclaiming her love for dance & ballet

we've had a few interesting conversations with adeline recently, one involving the different shades of skin people have. it caught me off guard & i think my mind switched her question around somehow; i thought she asked me what my favorite color is...i told her red, then i changed my answer to blue.

she looked at me totally confused & then asked, looking down at her arm, "so we have red skin, mommy? i didn't know that!"

so yea, took me a few minutes to explain my mistake at which point she was totally over that concept & moving on to how she's incorporating purple as a 2nd favorite color to red.

and! *drumroll* after 7 years of marriage & such, we have finally purchased a bona fide computer & writing desk! not that i do a lot of writing other than this blog, right? but, still. good times. it's amazing what a few months without piling doctor bills will do for a budget...you know: it works! the budget works!

so along with the desk we found some other small furniture (world market,  you rock) which seemed to put this furniture decorating bug in me...so after 2 years of sitting in our basement (after i believe a few years in my parent's garage & anoother few decades with some other folks--it was from a garage sale), i finally decided to dust off this chair, rip off the old fake leather & molding foam & reupholster this chair.

see the wooden seat part a bit above on the table? then the sling chair part on the bottom?

amelia helped me pull all the staples out--we're talking at least 200. & she truly helped me! it was adorable, she sat beside me with some needle-nosed pliers, pulling at the stubborn staples in the wood. if i pulled one out, she would carefully pick it up, placing it in the small pile of half rusted metal. i call wes to gleefully tell him what i've started & that i'll be needing his help a bit & he's like: why, i've never upholstered a chair. at which point i told him i'm an expert b/c i've watched a few youtube videos, so...yep.

i spent hours on this chair. halfway through i was ready to give up, at which point wes helped me figure out  how to get the fabric to cover the chair without needing buttons. i won't even go into the trip to joann fabrics. UGH i hate that store! (sorry to all who love it, namely my mom & mother in law...but come on! where are the two of you when i needed you as joann fabrics store buffers?! *smile*). i spent just shy of 2 hours in that store with a 2 year old trying to track down the stuff, get to the checkout only to be sent back to the cutting & measurement station to wait another 15 minutes, then back to the checkout. & now we have this bag of stuff to take back b/c it was either not useful or totally wrong--apparently not all buttons work for upholstry & yea i'm going to tell that saleslady when i return all this other crap about it)

apparently i did feel the need to tell you all about this hell of a trip.

so we go to put the chair on the legs/bottom the other day (it's not screwed in here, as you can probably tell)

...anyway, we go to put it on the bottom & discover that i DID need to paint the top of the bottom/legs parts.

 

say it with me: damn it! so back to the basement it went to be painted & sprayed with polyurethane...maybe it will be finished by the weekend. but! it looks pretty good!

& wes & i were able to go on a date this past weekend...with my bosses. which didn't seem at all like i was eating with a boss, just a friend from high school & her husband. it was at this amazing italian restaurant (trattoria roma, in grandview).

just know also that this past week i've been in some serious fibro/gluten-fog & pain, which may explain my lack of computer use. but, it's all good. we're here & we're drinking milkshakes.
