school, soccer, dance, swimming, parties...oh my!

so we've been busy. really, where did august & september go? this coming weekend is the first we've had with only two events on the calendar (small group, soccer for addy). i'm looking forward to being lazy & doing as little as possible...except i've already talked wes into cleaning the basement or garage. egads, i may have to take that back. because we just need to chill out.

the girls had a double birthday party a few weekends ago (i'm hoping to show those pics in another post), addy's in soccer with two games a week (that ends very soon, thankfully) & then they're both in swimming once a week. amelia's in ballet once a week. then there's school & the we-need-parenting-help class the same time amelia has ballet. we are hosting our small group (which isn't so much stressful--just a great reason for us to clean! DOI!). & starting in october i'm volunteering two saturday mornings a month at a nearby food pantry.

maybe it's just going from the lazy days of summer to top speed busy schedule. last night wes replaced the broken toilet--getting into bed at midnight.(necessary b/c sorta clean toilet water leaked onto the basement floor. apparently it was totally broken, beyond repair. bummer.) while he was doing that i watched two criminal minds episodes & am now afraid of everything & everyone.

so i'm growing my hair out, right? (i just tried to find a picture to show the length, but apparently i don't take pictures of myself very often). about twice a year now i get a trim with a very talented stylist (who's price went waaaay up this past cut! ugh.). i've been noticing some hairs that are more curly & rough than the others...so i asked the stylist if my hair is getting even more curly (the curls have increased with each pregnancy). she said she'd take a look as she's shampooing & such.

as she takes the towel off & sorts through my hair i notice this funny look on her face, like she's trying to find the right words. so i ask her if it's grey hairs...again, the funny look (she's a very sweet woman, mind you). then she kindly & slowly says: i don't see any grey hairs. i notice the texture change that you  mentioned & what it's from are white hairs.

it took a second to comprehend that nope, i don't have grey hairs. i have WHITE hairs. i'm not going grey. i'm going WHITE. i just started laughing, threw up my hands & said something like 'it figures'...so the stylist seems to sigh some relief that i'm not crying or whatever & says with a serious smile that the hairs will probably just look like very light blond highlights for a few more years, given my natural hair color.

so there you have it: i'm going white, getting old, aging.

which isn't really surprising me. i am 31 after all, right? turning 30 wasn't such a big deal. i barely blinked at 31...then this past month i noticed not just the kinky apparently white hairs but also something i've had before but not really noticed as a problem: cellulite. now, it's a problem.

i do know that fair skinned folks tend to show cellulite more than darker skin tones & i'm about as fair as it gets...but i'm at a healthy weight, right? i'm guessing it (& *it* refers to the high level of cellulite on my rear end & thighs) has to do with multiple factors: fair skin, aging, lack of muscle tone. so i can change one of those factors...but that takes effort.

i think i'd rather just do some self esteem exercises in the mirror instead of physical excursion right now. you know, look in the mirror & say to myself: you are smart & funny, people like you!

*smile*

really, i should just start walking in the mornings, when the girls are at school. right? but that messes with my cleaning time & shower alone time & coffee time & reading time. i guess i can't have it all.

so please, tell me, friends--you are aging, too, right?! i'm not the only 31 year old with white hairs & the butt of a 70 year old?! (i know what a butt of a 70 year old looks like from the rec center locker room--those water aerobics women have no problem stripping down to their birthday suits & walking around, talking away about how old they are & what they want for lunch).

so i think i'm off to take a walk...birthday party post to come tomorrow i guess!

  1. it is not just you. cellulite seems to magically appear - i am trying the gym 3 days a week, which i do not have time for...i wish there were old women, but the school gym is free so i am working out with 20 year olds. it is not pretty and so far i have only made it 3 times in a single week one and i had to study on the eliptical...if only the mirror chant would make all my clothes fit...

  2. I have had gray hair since my 10th birthday ... and I just keep getting more of it. My sister gives me a hard time every time she sees me because I refuse to get highlights (or lowlights, whatever) to cover it up. Cellulite is coming on, too.

Mostly though, I like getting older.
