today i'm thinking of starting my christmas list, as wes has requested. maybe it will go better than the list i made yesterday...i actually wasn't able to complete ANY of the list items. i know, you'd think calling the doctor would be easy. the one time i think to call, it was over the lunch hour (& i know that this office is totally off limits during lunch hour for making appointments, which is good--everyone must eat, eh?).
i tried to vacuum (which i had tried to do the day before but couldn't b/c first i put it off to play w/ the 3 kids, then i couldn't b/c the nannied boy was sleeping, then i couldn't b/c when i tried, i totally scared the nannied boy into sobbing big tears with a terrified look on his face--i had no clue he was afraid of the vacuum...after he was gone, it was time to leave for our anniversary dinner, family style). anyway. so i put it off to try figuring out this blog situation, then i tried while the girls were here & for whatever reason amelia would just follow me around clinging to my legs & crying.
so then addy started to ask me constant questions, help her do this, how do you do that, how do you spell this word or that word (namely, PIG & COW--& yes, you must shout them to imitate how she asked me every time, even when the vacuum was off ??!).
after both girls were sent to their bedrooms for a cool-down time out, i decided to help amelia with her techniques. she is known to just strip down naked, tear her room apart (remember her pulling the chair rail off the wall?), & kick the door. so i gathered her up onto the rocking chair & she fell asleep within a few minutes! score one for the mama right?!
but then i couldn't vacuum because i would wake her up. so i just swept with a broom & felt very much like laura ingalls wilder's mom. maybe i'll start calling wes, charles & the girls half-pint...
holy hell, what a day yesterday was.

but now i come to the advice from kids part...
**do not take clothing advice from amelia today.**
this is an example of amelia's wardrobe choices lately:
it either has to be all or nothing. & i promise you she found a pair of striped undies. other days will be polka dots or glittery clothes or all one color. every few days, i catch her at the right moment in the morning & ask if she wants me to pick out an outfit for her & she is interested in something else (dolls) & agrees...those days she looks slightly less neurotic. (but it is the morning & i am half out of it, still, so she may look a bit non-matched. but who cares?!)
**do take prayer advice from adeline**
i know some folks pray every night with their kids, or all day or something like that, or expect their kids to pray out loud as soon as they begin talking. but wes & i just aren't into that idea. i pray for them out loud at night sometimes or during the day, at different times & situations...i guess just to let them know it doesn't have to be so regimented, it's more about getting to a conversation with god, a relationship, right?
so last night, after this horrible day when everyone (well, not wes) cried at least once & others cried nearly constantly from 11:30 to 7 (ahem, addy & amelia), i asked addy if she wanted to pray out loud with me. she looked a bit nervous & shy, but in typical addy style, if given a challenge--she accepts.
adeline: dear jesus, thank you for my sister, thank you for my mommy, thank you for my daddy, thank you for my dog, thank you for my school & teachers, thank you for my food, thank you for my bed, thank you for my teddy bear, thank you for my world. amen.
i think this is the idea jesus had when he implied we should all come to god like a child. amazed, humbled, thankful.
my prayer was going to be more like: AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHY DO MY GIRLS WHINE ALL DAY? etc ad nauseum...pathetic. i know there's a time & place to question & ask things of god, but talk about being put in my place by my child, you know?

appointment. remember to make the girls hair appointments (trust me, you do not want me near scissors & hair at the same time, thus must take the girls to get hair cuts). & amelia has been cutting her own every few days...
this is the most recent, to the right of the picture.
you may also notice that she had stamped her face. she was actually quite proud of both the self hair cut & self facial stamps (or fake tattoos, as she calls them now) so i'm not sure why she looks so sheepish in the picture.
