...we get a few bills from medical folks that are over $500. then i go into denial. then i decide we are NEVER EVER going to spend any more money until that bill those bills are paid off. then we are forced to feed our family & must visit the grocery store. *sigh*
...i have just finished reading a book--or 3--that i love, leaving me now feeling void of any emotion (just kidding. or am i?) or ability to pick up another fiction book because all i do is compare it with the previous book. another *sigh* how i miss the girl with the dragon tattoo/who played with fire/who kicked the hornet's nest. why did stieg larsson have to die?!
...reading books i love. it's possible for me to neglect many other things, such as a blog, or cooking, or being patient with my girlies.
...fellow united state-ians talk bullshit & don't care one iota for their fellow citizen. how can someone love capitalism more than a person?
...when i think about why we call ourselves, in the united states, americans. because there are dozens of countries in the americas (north, central, south) & somehow we are the ones who get to call ourselves americans? i don't get it. maybe my dad could input on this one?
...moms judge each other. stop it.
...the allergy results for someone in our family comes back positive. (addy is intolerant to eggs, milk, & wheat). a blood test result showed high intolerances to the eggs & milk. the wheat/gluten didn't show up, but that is usually a false negative at her age--plus she has sprouted up & is doing much better since going gluten free, so it's suggested to keep her off gluten b/c more than likely, she's also gluten intolerant. you do not even want to see our grocery bill. almond milk is so pricey! gluten free is pricey! egads. i will never get that new kitchen, eh?
...the cost of the coffee we buy at costco goes up $3 in just a few weeks. actually, nearly everything we buy has skyrocketed in price. yet...our wages have not. humph. hate inflation. hate food allergies. hate it all. hate economic depressions/recessions. argh!
amelia: mommy, why do i have 2 outfits with polka dots all over them, everywhere? {this was about the 20th time she had asked this question. her questions can keep going for such a long time...& reasonable answers don't make the flow of questions stop.}
me: {thoughtful pause} amelia, the sun also rises.
amelia: {thoughtful pause} why did god make polka dots?
me: {internally, a big sigh} because dogs love polka dots?
amelia: {totally serious, with arm exclamations} mommy, the sun rises!

this is just one example of amelia's new use of interrogation techniques. i think she may be trying to make me squirm enough so i will confess to her that her parents are *indeed* aliens.

addy's first doll, emma, was lost for quite awhile (a month?). we looked for it everywhere...we called businesses where we visited around the last few days, turned the house & cars inside out. we finally gave up, told addy we're sorry that she lost her doll. she cried, sad sobs.
last weekend, on a clear blue-sky day, wes was clearing out our gardens & plants...he was chopping down the asparagus patch when amelia pointed & shouted with glee: THERE'S ADDY'S DOLL! THERE'S EMMA!
yep, emma was in the asparagus patch, hidden among the bushy fern tops. she had some mold (remember how rainy it has been here?) but an intense soaking & scrub fixed that. to say that addy has been loving on this doll is taking the situation lightly...

first fire of the season...& we didn't have big marshmallows to make smores. so yes, we roasted the tiny ones. we were that desperate.
don't laugh. one day this could be you.
needing some bean bags or something to make this a comfy place to sit...hhmmm...
yea, love fall & winter. *love*

& lastly, halloween!
addy repeatedly said: halloween is the BEST holiday ever!
amelia as a scary lion. really, she looked more like the cowardly lion & i think that was my make-up application fault...
here's the two beggars.
& our very own dora the explorer!
addy for sure understood the idea of beggar's night this year. she sprinted from house to house, shouting out thank you as she ran to the next house. she had an enormous bag to fill & was totally engrossed in the conversation of "where to go next" with her friends who came along (we went with a total of 6 girls, ages 6, 5, 5, 4, 3, & 3...it was very loud & the energy could probably have registered on some sort of scale or powered electric items).
amelia still insisted on having a parent with her at first at each door...she was too shy to say anything & once her other 3 year old friend joined with her the two of them would go up to a door together, bat their pretty eyes, smiling shyly. then when candy was placed in their hands they would turn around & shriek as loud as kids can, running back to the wagon, showing each other the candy, holding hands.
friends are just so much fun, eh?!

one more thing: i missed my first parent-event at school. well, okay, i missed part of it. for some reason our pre-k had the halloween party yesterday. not sure why, but ah well. so then i also babysat the nannied-boy yesterday. he was being dropped off at the same time that the halloween party started. so wes took the day off & was the one on time. i didn't think they would pass the candy out first (so adorable, parents sit in a row & each kid knocks on this pretend door & says trick or treat & thank-yous; just practice & such). but i missed it! *sniff sniff* but wes was able to enjoy it...i hear he has pictures...
