...relaxed.
i try not to do any housework & have as much fun as possible, either by myself or with the girls. it's sorta like my sabbath & day off all in one.(although i do shop sometimes, which would make it not a sabbath, eh?). & it just so happened that yesterday was a totally *freakishly* warm day for feburary 1st...i mean, 50+ degrees?! where's the snow? i miss it.
anyway. so here's a quick run down of what things are like on my faux day off. because, really, parents never get a day off unless the kids are at the grandparents, right?
the girls get to watch a dvd (max & ruby, something to do with a candy apple?? max & ruby are very much annoying, if you ask me). & for some reason, the girls decided to sit in an airplane, which would be the blanket & such...& why their arms are flying like an airplane.
all of the toys & piles of papers & just out of place items are mostly left where they are, to rot for a day.
& yes, we still have yet to take down the remaining ceiling-hung christmas paper chain. maybe by easter...
oh, you want to have a pillow path over the pretend sky? sure, go for it.
the pillow path led to their cloud-hide out. king size sheets & masking tape work wonders for these structures.
i'm not quite sure what the purpose of this was, but i think it was created during their playtime of 'honey & mommy'. this is usually the nannied-boy napping pack & play, but today the honey slept there (the honey was addy, not sure how she managed to fit) & yet again there is a pillow trail...
this was all before addy was dropped off for preschool, so all before 11:30 (lunch).
so then we had lunch & addy was dropped off a bit after that...then amelia & i quickly drove back to our house so i could run in & make a PBJ for myself, wash some fruit to take along & then millie & i headed to a thrift store.
oh yes. i found 5 puzzles, bags of polly pockets & a polly pocket castle, among other random things. then we headed to half priced books to search for more ivy & bean books & ramona books (didn't find any! bummer. but we did find one book of the littles *smile*). the whole time we were looking, amelia was singing a made up song about james & the giant peach (a book we're reading to addy, but amelia looks through it every day).
once i pick up addy, i remind the girls that i said we could make a trip to the zoo or the big park, but they must agree on where to go...so...since they couldn't agree, we went home. bummer. they immediately went outside to play & built a mouse house made of mud, sticks, dried leaves, etc. in the middle of the patio. i discovered that not only are the hyacinths coming up, but lilies are over a foot tall. this warm winter has even fooled plants.
we met our new neighbors, the ones behind us. we never had a chance to meet the older couple who lived there before so we weren't sure if it was really for sale or something else. i dunno, we were just being mousy about it all. plus, it would mean we'd have to walk all the way around the subdivision, to the subdivision behind us, ring the doorbell & disturb the older couple who never went into their backyard. anyway! the new neighbors have 2 kids the same age as the double a's. amazing, eh? friendly, too (we are already fb friends--i think it was the fastest fb friendship for me, from the time of meeting someone to being a fb buddy).
amelia's leaping lollipops class was canceled (yippee! for the parents), so we made fajitas & black beans--quesadilla for the addy & played a memory game. bedtime at 7:30 went well until amelia decided to cry over picking the wrong book to read, so while wes returned books & dvd's to the library, i sat on amelia's bed, holding her warm, small hand...thinking of how to protect my girls from this: being teased.
i think teasing & being made fun of is part of being a kid--hell, even being human. after picking addy up she was a bit quiet & then suddenly said something like: i don't like my friends laughing at my clothes. i asked her some questions to clarify what was going on (how do you know they were making fun of your clothes? who? was a teacher nearby?).
apparently, a few girls in addy's class are very fashion conscious. which is ironic because so is adeline--but she sorta has her own, more liberal view of fashion & i love it. i think she may just take after her grandmas & be able to sew her own clothes eventually, a line of clothes that will shock & awe with her use & combination of colors & textures, layers. i admit to keeping a folder of pictures in my picasa album detailing the exotic outfits adeline & amelia come up with, but what better age to experiment with picking out clothes--independence at its finest for preschoolers--i thought it was a safe age, a time when other kids wouldn't notice things like clothes & hair & such. *totally wrong*
& then i remembered that she had asked me to pick out her clothes that morning, a total rarity. so that day, her clothes actually matched & everything...now i was a bit peeved that this other girl was making fun of the outfit i picked out (green skirt, polka dot tights, blue long sleeve t-shirt with green & pink writing, & topped with sparkly mary janes. the outfit rocked, folks).
finally, i got the story out of her: when addy walked into school wednesday morning, a girl told another girl that addy's outfit was silly. they laughed at her. & this happens more than just the one time. addy was nearly in tears yesterday trying to pick out clothes for school. i want to walk her into school & have a few words with this other girl, the teasee, the one who thinks she knows it all about clothes as a 5 year old. but maybe, just maybe, adeline is making more of it than it really is...maybe. but i do know that this has totally changed the confidence level of my kiddo.
argh, kids suck. (& i'm not talking about my own). i think i may have a chat with the teacher about this...or not?! gah!

& just to prove that when we get rid of a few medical bills here, we always have others on the horizon: adeline failed her hearing test at school. when i picked her up thursday, the speech therapist told me about it, saying the school nurse would be calling me soon.
for those who don't know, addy has failed hearing tests before, but was mostly non compliant in the last, so the result was inconclusive. the next level of choices: wait a few years or put her under anesthesia & do a more intense hearing test. we chose to wait a few years. yes, she does have a speech delay, but with her amazing school speech therapist, she's made such impressive strides this year. we thought this was behind us.
then add in her mystery fevers that keep popping up here & there. a friend sent me this information (the son of the other friend has been diagnosed with periodic fever syndrome). it was like reading a medical chart i'd written for adeline. so who knows...all i see are $$, you know? but just maybe we'll get an answer if we look into it...

& can someone please come over & show me how to play old maid. please. reading the directions & then trying to follow them--impossible!
