this morning adeline threw herself around in little girl angst, telling us she didn't want to go to school, she didn't want to wear these certain clothes, she didn't want her teeth brushed, etc... so i took her temperature, just in case, b/c she typically loves going to school. sure enough, 101.2; we have a fever in the house.
there goes the trip to the gym...which includes a very light 20 minute work out for me on the elliptical & then--more importantly--35 minutes of reading with amelia in their hourly day care. these day care workers are *awesome* & are the same ladies year by year. they remembered when i was pregnant with amelia & also when adeline was amelia's age. they know amelia loves to snuggle with her empty bottle & soft bunny-blanket. they know the girls' names & when i go without adeline they still love to tell me stories about what adeline (or amelia) did the last time she was with them.
sigh, but i won't be going there today.

there is a group of people, or more like several groups of people, who are probably happy adeline isn't going to school today. first we have the slow drivers on our route to school. then we have the college students who love to step into the road & crosswalk without even looking up at traffic. then we have the drivers who don't like to turn right on red, the ones who sit through a perfectly turnable red light (i only beep if it's a green light they're sitting through...which happens much more than humanly possible).
so let's talk about this driving situation in good 'ole westerville. really. the speed limit is mostly set to 25 mph which seems a bit slow, but most roads do have a park or residential section, so i have come to an understanding with the speed limit. but what really bothers me is that people suddenly decide to drive 20 mph--or sometimes even 15 mph--yes! what is really amazing is that i can follow the same person through westerville, going way under the speed limit. then we merge onto 270 or 71 & WHAM this person is suddenly a speed racer, weaving in & out of traffic & going 15 or 20 over the speed limit. it's crazy. these people are *crazy*! at least i consistently go 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit.
but really, why? why do normal people go under the speed limit like this? those in ohio, i dare you to come over to westerville to test this out. just make sure you're not already in a bad mood b/c you will be after driving around this town.
AND. adeline knows about beeping at cars. i love it. if we're going super slow behind someone & i am muttering something under my breath (you know, like 'what the heck is wrong with your gas pedal?! go! get off the cross walk!' etc.) adeline will shout out from the backseat, beep at the car, mommy! now, i really don't beep that often, but when i do adeline *loves* it. she giggles & says, go mommy!
anyway, now you know that when taking our route to addy's school, the college kid walking the same distance gets to uptown westerville in nearly the same amount of time. i have passed this kid (who walks from our subdivision to the college) in our neighborhood & while waiting at a red light, he has then passed me. it obviously frustrates me to no end. argh, argh, argh.

last weekend a major shift was set in motion. we took the changing table out of amelia's room! which in my mind is saying: amelia is no longer a baby. she doesn't need a changing table for a wet or dirty diaper in the middle of the night. it's the first step in a series of room-altering events, ones that will make the nursery into a little girl's bedroom...complete with a twin size bed, dresser, toybox. it just happened so fast, amelia going from baby to toddler. i am excited about this change, but you know, there goes my *baby*, growing up.

as you can see, i have nothing important to talk about today (except amelia morphing from baby to toddler, *muy importante*). i am fully expecting today to be a stressing one, filled with grumpy-feverish adeline (who has already been sent to her bedroom for pushing her sister off of a chair) & antagonizing amelia. the type of day that doesn't have an end in sight. i really should follow through with my threats to start drinking bailey's in my morning coffee...maybe i'll have a better story or two later today.

Love Adeline encouraging you to beep. The Boy is becoming a backseat driver, too. The other day when I had to slam on my brakes because some NOT-SO-SMART person pulled out in front of me, he giggled, went "WHOA!" and then said, "You slow down, Momma. You crash, prolly. You better slow down."
ReplyDeleteI dont think I am ready for admitting that Elliott is growing up. It saddens me to make some big boy changes...like getting real shoes instead of Robeez :) The changing table would probably kill me.
ReplyDeleteWe have this lovely Mocha Cream liquor that doesn't even require the accompanying cup of coffee =)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure those Westerville drivers are direct descendants of their northern Ohio counterparts on the 55mph state routes-- you know the ones driving 51mph, then 48mph, then, oh, yawn and gee whiz up to 53mph then whoa, back down to 51mph. EXCEPT for when you pass them -- then they can totally gun it to 66mph and make you fear for your everliving life.....
