when adeline is sick she has a tendency to be naughty & clingy. so i should have deduced that since adeline is sick (she has a urinary tract infection & has been battling a cold which today is turning into laryngitis--her voice is all crackly & a bit quiet...it makes me smile when she talks which makes her ask 'why you laughing at me, mommy?' so sad). anyway. so she's battling several viruses & bacteria strands & has had a low fever on & off since last week.
i should have expected to find all my bare escentuals makeup dumped on the bedroom carpet. i should have expected to find another entire bag of cereal dumped onto the ground (outside this time, thankfully!). how does she get into these things? well, i'm just a shitty parent. *smile* or maybe she's just a smart kid? which one? we'll find out in 10 years or so, i'm sure.
but really...her & amelia have been getting into all sorts of mischief lately & i've been handling it pretty well. nope, i haven't had time to blog or read blogs. i've returned two books to the library UNREAD!
*shock, horror, gasp*
(in all honesty, the books weren't that good to begin with. the movie version of julie & julia is *much* better than the book & the author's 2nd book)
so yea, my time has been spent doing some job searches, cleaning up child-disasters, doing laundry (a kid with a UTI pees A LOT in their underwear & on their clothes. i mean 6 or more outfits a lot. laundry has been gagging the life out of me!) & there have even been some messes i've made which maybe i'll save for a time when i'm feeling a bit better mentally.
so this afternoon i thought adeline was watching tv upstairs. i turned it on, she snuggled into the floor with pillows & all. i went downstairs & watched an episode of desperate housewives...it's part of my pact with myself, to sit down & either read or watch tv or just lay on the couch pretending to sleep for at least 45 minutes a day. (stop laughing; it works about half the time).
then i hear something outside. it sounds like addy. i look out & yep, there she is, sitting on the swing set with the entire container of cereal. i used my supreme coping skills & choked back a crazed-parent shout just went back to the tv show... (i know, what's wrong with me?).
argh. long story short, the next time i went upstairs adeline was in amelia's room in a pile of soft things that had been previously clean. out of frustration i go into my room to find all my makeup dumped onto the floor. again, i use amazing coping skills & contain my desire to go crazy on adeline.
vacuuming up nearly $100 worth of make up really is a bummer.
then i go to the basement a bit later to do another load of laundry (think: basement smells like pee clothes that adeline produces nearly every hour) only to discover our washer went kaput. the clothes are totally soaked. the thing that makes the thing spin is no longer spinning/working/doing anything.
we've been anticipating it going out but i gave it another year! i had hopes for this washer. i believed in it. what a let down...
joking aside, this sucks. right before i stuck my hand in the washer i was actually still feeling pretty upbeat...i had just done some praying about our situation & was pretty cool with myself for not grounding adeline for life.
we just get one illness out the door & another comes in. we send a bill out & another comes in. i know--this is life. but why do all the bad things crap on us at once? our car is jerking around (wes seems to think it's okay for now but...i have no clue, right!), the washer, medical bills, constant illness, me really super duper trying to keep my cool about it all. even wes in all his laid-back-ness is stressing the past few weeks. i just don't even want to imagine what's next (truly, hopefully something that falls under our home warranty).
just a day in the life.

Regarding the quotes on the side...
ReplyDeletethe line from Barrie's Peter and Wendy (aka Peter Pan ) is
"To die will be an awfully big adventure."
For a Peter Pan adventure unlike any other:

well, the never fairy--thanks for that info... i'll check into that.
ReplyDeleteHeidi, do you know the Never Fairy? That was weird.
ReplyDeleteYour life sucks. I want it to stop that right now. I'll pray in that general direction, okay?
carol--for sure don't know this never fairy. odd thing to choose to be, eh?
ReplyDeleteRemember what your mama told you 15 years ago -- be highly suspect of anyone having the time to troll the internet for inane obscurities.... Of course there is the other possibility - that there really is a never-land that is monitoring all things fairy.....
ReplyDeleteOh dear no... trolls are an entirely different species! ;)
ReplyDeleteI just like letting people know about that book, since it's cool. Another Pan-related book worth its salt is here.
It's a great "What If?" adventure with Wendy choosing a different path.
The other Pan books out there COMPLETELY go against Barrie's original stories...(even the "official" sequel) so I'm calling attention these lesser known works. :D
And why wouldn't the Neverland exist? Or NeverWorld, for that matter? ;)
Still Believe.
That was weird....not the stuff going on, but that peter pan thing. eek
