fake vacation, folks!

yes, it's a bit after ten o'clock & i am awake...because...drumroll...the girls are out of town!

friday night wes & i hit the town looking very fly. i even ventured to wear white pants! i would never do that with my kids around...we went to zpizza & i was totally blown away. for the first time since going gluten free, i had real pizza. true, the gf crust only comes in one size so i'm guessing it's frozen & then delivered to the store but still. it's hello-tasty. we ordered two gf pizzas & scared down most of both, including an appetizer& beer (they had bard's beer, another hello-tasty gf item). then we walked around the town, making our way to jeni's ice cream. then we thought we rented a comedy from a redbox but it turned out to not be a comedy necessarily & made me sadly cry about the whole thing.

& here it is: kill me, some of you, i know. but i don't like jeni's ice cream. just don't. i like the traditional flavors (i tried the belgium milk chocolate & even that seemed a bit over the top). so sorry to those who are in love & devout jeni's lovers. to those who are with me: STAND UP & FIGHT! to those of you not in the ohio area, you have no clue what i'm talking about & that's okay, too.

friday evening was wonderful. we went into some shops & were able to walk around glass without being fearful of what a child might do (naturally. i don't think i would even try to go into these shops with my girls. again, just asking for trouble).

then i had a terrible night of sleep. then our car was fixed (nothing major, just breaks...but a very ill-timed appointment at 8:30 a.m. so not made by me, obviously). then we went out for lunch. AGAIN. out of the house. we tried another restaurant that offered gf pizza, hoping for more gf food other than pizza...but apparently they only think gf folks want gf pizza. anyway, we again stuffed ourselves on gf pizza which wasn't so tasty.

& tonight wes is out with his buds at a ball game to celebrate a friend's birthday. my sister & i went out to a mexican restaurant & then watched julia & julie & now i can't stop talking to myself in julia child's voice! griswold *is* looking at me a bit funny, yes & wes will have a shocker when he gets home.

what i can't figure out is that i miss my girls something fierce. & when they're here--which is 360 days of the year, naturally--i am thinking of how nice it will be to have a quiet day to myself. so here's my quiet day & i love it to pieces but i love them also. of course i need these days with myself & with my husband & hell, even griswold. but i can not escape the fact that i am to the moon about my girls. all day i've been recalling stories & smiling, laughing out loud about them. i don't want the days to be here when i am waiting for them to call from college or from their own lives maybe far away.

but it must happen, them growing up. yes! & we will retire & hopefully have a grand time doing that & keep ourselves busy in our own lives so when they do move out our lives won't fall apart. (did i say that correctly?) how to love these kids so intensely but then let go. i guess it gets easier as they become more mature. i dunno. parents of older kids/adults, care to offer advice?

& now hopefully off to bed to sleep through the night this time. how is it that i get less sleep when my kids are gone then when they're here?!
