two is *not* better than one?

with amelia we were one step ahead: we purchased two stuffed monkeys. lesson learned the hard way, from kid #1, after she was so distraught to have her stuffed animal lovey torn from her arms & then fell a straight 6 feet onto concrete chasing me down into the basement after i swooped up her very dirty little teddy bear to put in the washer...that was years ago--no worries, she was fine (just intense bruising for the christmas). yes, so we learned to buy two when it comes to stuffed animals we anticipate our girls falling in love with.

but we totally bought it too early & amelia cares nothing for the two stuffed monkeys. instead, she fell in love with a bunny blanket. it had been a gift from my mother in law's friend...it even had her name on it! so we asked my mil to track down all the details & to buy another AS FAST AS YOU CAN! she did & that was months ago & heaps of thanks go to her & her mad shopping skills.

so for the past few months only one time have we been in a pinch. amelia & bunny went muddin' together. bad. so we took bunny #2 out of storage & sent bunny #1 down the laundry chute--quietly. then amelia decided to take bunny #2 swimming in muddy water. (sense a mud theme with her?) 21 month-olds are so *stinkin* fast.

all this to say that both bunnies are very clean right now (bunny #1 was in the last load before the washer died! *PHEW*). tonight amelia was having a meltdown, crying tantrum about everything in general but we totally didn't have time to deal with it. so i found her bunny & bottle (think of this empty bottle as a pacifier. go ahead, just try to take it away from her.) so i could change my pants (so we could leave to buy a stupid clothes washer...i would so rather spend this money on something more exciting, right?! but alas, it will be delivered here friday morning...i dunno if amelia's cloth butt-wipes will make it until then. the inaugural wash of butt wipes will be a true test of this new washer). ANYWAY!

amelia was placed on our bed, next to stacks of freshly folded laundry (where else can you fold & sort 3 loads of laundry simultaneously?), holding her b&b (slang for bottle & bunny, right) & looked over to find ANOTHER bunny. i wasn't in the room but i could tell something was not okay. it's like the alternate universe on lost...she was in shock.

I HAVE TWO BUNNIES?!

by this time i was next to her. wes held up both bunnies with this look of 'uh, what are we going to do with this?' & she just started sobbing. huge, gasping sobs with enormous crocodile tears. once we took one away, she was fine again.

i have no clue where to go with that. she likes things in moderation?

& truly, adeline is afraid of highways. on the way to home depot tonight, as we drove towards the 'big highway' as we call it (you're learning all sorts of gerbickian slang today!) she is shouting NO NO NO NO, NOT THE BIG HIGHWAY! & then proceeds to begin sobbing.

seriously...kid drama is intense.

  1. So interesting reading about Millie's reaction to the double bunny! And I love hearing the Gerbick language.

  2. That is too funny about Amelia and her two bunnies.
As for Adeline and the big highway, Rhys has the same concerns about big roads. The main road in our area is six lanes. There is another way over the river from our house to school/work: a little, two-lane drawbridge. Every night after school, Rhys asks to go over the little bridge. He says there are too many cars on the big bridge, the six-lane road. I swear I'm a safe driver.
