things not to mention to my husband...

...i want to repaint both the upstairs & downstairs hallways & stairway. i want to repaint the living room & possibly the dining room. i've put a few feelers out there the past month or two, mentioning how the stairway really *needs* repainting (thanks to the girls who think the walls are something to color on). plus, the chocolate brown gives those areas a darker look than i want right now. the colors are still swirling around in my head, more on that closer to when this repainting will happen...

anyway. now he knows. some people break up over texts or whatever but me, i tell wes about upcoming home projects on our blog. i'm sure he already knew this was coming, being as smart & heidi-knowledgeable as he is.

so we've had this super busy few weeks behind us & now a bit in front of us. we're in the muck of it. & i haven't bought one.single.present for wes yet!!! GAH! i believe he is taking half a day this thursday so i can get out on the town, go to a few doc appointments (2nd day in a row this week), & then track down some items on his list.

this is what we've been up to, in pictures:

getting a christmas tree (this day was highly stressful, including a car breaking down, wes & i totally not communicating on how/when to pick him up after the breakdown, adeline stressing over 'daddy's car not working anymore *cry cry cry*, etc). then we went to pick out a christmas tree--the same night. not so bright...

but here we are the next night, with a fire going, hot chocolate (or cocoa, as the girls call it), & a child made temporary pillow bed on the floor...it was pretty comfy.

 the silly faces

addy all dressed up for church. this is obviously a new outfit b/c she wanted to wear it please Please PLEASE.

we made some new ornaments with lots of glitter & puffy things & even the wreath for the door. the girls, again, loved this...i am still wondering how smart it was to heat up a glue gun with them around.

at my dear friend holli's wedding. she super wanted the kids of the guests to come, so along they came.
see me? i'm the middle bridesmaid.
the girls & wes tearin' up the dance floor...at this point it was mostly just dads & their kids *smile*
yep, that's addy raising the roof & amelia doing some sort of squat-dance ??
holli & i...ah, she is such a dear friend. & beautiful. & calm--never have i seen a bride so calm & serene on her wedding day...

at the end of the wedding reception, ooh around 11 p.m. the 3 of us still alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic (as wes likes to sing those last few words--i know, my husband is a special one).

even after that late night, i hosted a gluten free christmas cookie/treat exchange which has been pretty successful (read: cookies almost gone already in just 3 days).

so. what else? well, we're trying to figure out how to fit two similar sized cars in our garage (yes! we bought a car. i'll wait until we get it to show you a picture of wes' goofy grin in a car that doesn't leak water inside, antifreeze, oil, or hasn't grown grass on the floor or that you can't hear from a block away...this was a really tough decision, to buy or not to buy. but really, it's not an option to do the latter when wes is driving 30-40 minutes one way to work each day. he's into biking, but....).

then there's me trying to adjust my thinking about this chronic pain situation. i do think this cognitive behavior class is helping me deal with it. but i've also heard a lot from god recently about life & my expectations. really, life is meant to be enjoyed--that's what god is pounding into my head right now alongside:

deuteronomy 6:4-9

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

...and...

jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

i don't mean to get all biblical & whatever, but i just keep getting it pounded into my head the past few months: enjoy this, even in the pain. to somehow look past the pain, to live & have joy in the pain.

so now i must go & make up words with adeline (from her alphabet puzzle--it's her favorite thing to do recently, aside from dreaming of her upcoming dance classes).
