"dear god, thank you for the pretty lights at the mall"

amelia was being a bit grumpy & would only answer no to anything i asked her. you know, do you want to have a snack? no! do you want to snuggle? no! do you want your bunny? no! so then i asked her: can you say anything but no? she thought a few seconds then answered:
this is my purse.
*smile*
she did indeed have a purse on her shoulder (but it was adeline's purse, actually). i think she just loves to prove us wrong.

another amelia thing we've noticed & my mom even commented on it at christmas...that amelia really enjoys being funny, being the one to make everyone laugh. a few days ago amelia walked up to me with huge smiles & a smug look on her face. she did a funky move that made me laugh, turned to me & proclaimed with wide arms up in the air: I AM FUNNY!

last night while tucking addy into bed i asked her if she had anything to talk about. she told me: yes, i have lots of questions for you to answer. we then spent the next 15 minutes, her asking, me answering. i finally told her it was time to stop thinking critically & just go to sleep. she asked if i could send daddy in; i said sure, addy said: i will just ask daddy the rest of my questions, okay? wes came out 5 or so minutes later looking bewildered...small kid, big questions.
i guess that's not so much a quote, but a lifestyle?

& can i just say how stressful yesterday was? broken blown-glass bowl (me--big oops. the sequence of events was rather impressive; sorta like in slow motion: grab the toy basket. bump the lid of this end table with a movable lid which tipped over the two large ceramic vases on it which crashed into this bowl. very sad.), broken ceramic soap dispenser (with LOTS of hand soap in it), poop smeared on the carpet, spaghetti vomit on the carpet, bossy 4 year old which turned the tame two year old into bossy two year old, nap struggler amelia, nap struggler nannied boy, wes' cold getting worse, ETC! ugh.
i need to start knitting again or something. the above day is for the birds!

& i have a confession to make. or maybe it's just considered a statement. ???
hi, my name is heidi & i have started rocking my two year old to sleep for the past 3 months.
i know, not so bad. but why are we doing this to ourselves?! but i think the answer is that she *wants* to snuggle with us, so why not? my guess is that she only has another 6 months or so taking naps. get my snuggles in while i can? & sure, this can make bedtimes a bit interesting...until we found her favorite book ever at half priced books the other day:
& now we just tell her to read her books (which only worked half the time before) but since this book arrived at our house, she eagerly jumps into bed with this book reading it to herself numerous times, saying over & over again: BUTT! POOP! BUTTPOOP! & then giggles. she loves to talk about poop so this book is just perfect. & yes, it helps with the situation we've gotten ourselves into (rocking her to sleep for her nap).
now, that was a tangent...
now, that was a tangent...
