because i am a totally random person (really, every personality test i take shows the same thing) i'll just let the pictures go where they uploaded instead of doing a storyline...

yesterday i went downstairs around 3 pm to see why the girls were being so quiet. amelia refused a nap & adeline rarely takes naps--so i was prepared to find something destructive & horrendous to clean going on. instead, they were sitting at the table & as soon as they saw me both yelled out with huge grins: PICNIC! come eat with us at our picnic!
then i noticed that they had climbed up onto the counters, pushing stools around to the various places. they had a variety of food...some from the counter (leftover pizza from their new year's eve party with gram mum & pop pop), others from the fridge or from containers. addy then started to talk about last summer, when we would have "middle of the day picnic or" (as she raised her finger up to make a statement worth hearing) "a snack picnic--it was so much fun."
here they are enjoying their mid-day, inside picnic.
they are getting so old, or mature...able to do things on their own, think of their own fun stuff to do & then pull it off without damaging the house. it's quite impressive with a hint of sadness (b/c they are growing up. but i said only a *hint*!). i love seeing them grow & mature, even with all the pain of being the parent (the rules, structure, discipline, tantrums to deal with, etc).
these past 2 weeks these girls have rarely been apart & somehow they have yet to show a strong desire to hurt each other. sure, there are the fights & random hitting, shoving, gnashing of teeth at each other. of course. bbbuuut, mostly they are playing together with any toy or imaginative play or art projects or just whatever they can think of. it's so damn cute! especially when adeline walks over to me, gives me a hug & tells me: thank you for my baby sister, i love her, she my best friend. millie in my heart.
*sigh*

look how happy they are!
i think i love this picture so much for many reasons. 1) they look so bundled like ralphie's brother from the christmas story. you know, "i can't put my arms down"... 2) they are giving me this look of being so annoyed with their mother. i can just see this still being their glazed over annoyed looks in 10 years when they are so embarrassed of me for whatever reason. 3) just the fact that they went out to play in the snow after this & had a blast & then came back in asking for hot cocoa & snuggling with each other & wes & i. 4) etc. i'm sure you don't need all my reasons.

amelia opening her favorite christmas gift, a toy-doll car seat.
this girls LOVES dolls & playing with dolls & playing house & playing with the kitchen & taking her dolls for walks & carrying them around in the strollers.
& this is adeline opening her dora pj's...they were not her favorite, however. even with dora on them, she apparently likes the soft fleece pj's, not the tighter cotton ones. whatever, child. *smile*
but what was her favorite gift? well, it was only $4! a kite, from world market. she doesn't know yet that it's a small kite compared to kites that can fly super high...but stores totally do not have kites in stock in the pre-christmas winter. it was the ONLY thing she asked for & the only thing i couldn't find--well, minus the small, stocking stuffer kite. so i guess we will just buy one for her this spring...

& here i am at my parent's house, later on christmas day. the drive was actually not bad--only a bit congested for 5 minutes. but this picture is of wes throwing a tiny ball at me, totally catching me by surprise which made my arms fly up, making the coffee cup in my hand splash everywhere. all over my parent's couch. oops. it was very much wes' fault.
but what was my favorite gift? an ipod touch! yea!! & wes even ventured into a few clothing stores to find me some sweaters. wow.
& wes with his favorite christmas gift: a schooner beer mug. this was a pretty good christmas for wes (a lego alarm clock, star wars lego set, unique beer mugs, etc).

amelia, the great.
this is what happens when a child will *not* take off her pj's & still wants to play outside & has also outgrown her winter coat & insists on wearing sunglasses. i think she's adorable, of course. & ornery.

adeline: mommy, why did god make the sun & people?
me: because god loves us. & b/c it was cool to have humans with all the animals. {i was tired, okay?!)
adeline: but why does god love us?
me: b/c he made us & cares about us. b/c he wants to see us enjoying life.
adeline: {with a very concerned look on her face}
me: {bracing myself for the next hard question after an hour of trying to get the girls to bed}
adeline: why we can't have the bomber anymore? {this is what wes called the car we sold recently, my thelma is his bomber or "whitey"}
me: b/c the bomber kept breaking down & was getting very expensive to maintain
etc etc etc.
this girl has an ability to jump from one topic to another in seconds. & she wants to know a lot of difficult answers...i told her that she can ask her sunday school teachers questions, also. she just looked at me with great consternation.
& now i am overhearing wes tell addy what the title of the movie he's returning to the redbox is called: the hangover. so then addy asks what's a hangover. & wes tells her. so naturally addy keeps asking more & more questions...

i had a few stories to tell, but have now forgotten them. maybe i'll remember them soon...
somehow time for this blog has been sucked up by other stuff, like resting or cleaning or playing tetris on my ipod... but i think once we get back into a non-holiday rhythm again, the blog will be more productive.
but one thing to ask: does anyone ever remember their new year's resolutions? i know i don't. but wes keeps asking me what mine is & i don't have one. so do you? (& yes, i ask him that also in return & he doesn't have one either. so maybe he's fishing around to point out that i need one?! ggrrr.)

How do you not just die of happiness and preciousness when adeline says, "Millie in my heart." Gah. I love listening to sibling giggles. We've been getting more and more of those lately.
