it's over. our vacation is completed...it was a super stellar vacation, though. we left tuesday morning & arrived in boston, a city seemingly filled with mostly grumpy folk. (i mean, we were getting glares from *everyone*, at stores, in our car, walking across a crosswalk...) basically, if they weren't being paid to be nice to us, they weren't. (okay, minus wes' cousin katherine--who now lives in boston, & the couple we stayed with at the end of our vacation, laura & dave, who live outside of boston).
we stayed at a bed & breakfast on cape cod
& this dude was amazing. yes, he was very nice but on my freakin goodness could he make a mean gf breakfast spread. the first day was lemon zest pancakes WITH RASPBERRY MAPLE SYRUP (to die for, obviously), sausage, & fruit. day 2 was an amazing oat, cranberry, nut, (& something else??) *souffle*!!!! (yes, a gluten free souffle. i don't think he knows what an accomplishment that is) with fruit & sausage (i think wes slipped it to him that he really super duper likes sausage). day 3 was sausage (somehow we didn't tire of it), a grapefruit sauteed/steamed in brown sugar, ginger, & something else, & a frittatta made with sun dried tomatoes, caramalized onions, cheese, spinach, & zucchini. each day the fruit had a different sauce to go along with it. seriously divine. i need to tie a bow around my finger to remember that i must write an excellent review for him online...i didn't get sick once from his food, nevermind that every morning we ate so much but it still felt like sunshine was shooting out our asses. it was that good.
within a day i had read a book & become an expert at sudoku, wes had perused one of his books & we figured out that we like to sit on the beach but not really go into the ocean. hmmm...for 3 days we didn't really do much of anything but sit around & relax. sure, we did some site seeing, but mostly, we just sat on our sunshine asses, drank alcohol often, & it was splendid.
at sundown on the beach
my goofy-skin-covered beach self.
at the cape cod jfk memorial. this is also the site of our only major argument of the week...*smile*
friday, after a tearful goodbye with the innkeeper (he was nice, but i was more choked up to leave his breakfasts behind) & headed to plymouth, MA. you know, were the pilgrims landed in 1621. the plymouth rock. the mayflower. that first terrible winter. the first thanksgiving. the site of europeans beginning to steal a beautiful hunk of land from the natives.
so, the plymouth rock was soooo much smaller than i expected. the mayflower is actually the mayflower II & only has one bolt from the original. most of the houses aren't original. it would've cost us nearly $200 to see all the historic sites i had begged to come visit. BUMMER.
(stupid) plymouth rock. apparently it's only a third of the original size. if it's truly the original (*enter creepy conspiracy theory music here*). sorry i don't have anything to show you the scale of the size. but really, it's not as big as you think it should be. (b/c apparently they used to let people chip a piece off? stupid, again.)
mayflower II
wes, the great vacation video-recorderer
so we just took pictures & walked around looking disgruntled then safely made our way to weymouth to meet up with wes' cousin for lunch & a beer. at which time i ordered a few too many rum & cokes (in my defense they were more strong than usual) & became a bit tipsy. that's b/c i was a disappointed american: plymouth rock sucks. it's probably not even the right rock! we chatted it up even though she wasn't able to order any alcohol b/c of her new temporary license...that was a bit weird but we enjoyed getting together with her. normal family members are good, lol! (not to say other family members aren't normal...but...??)
then we went a bit further around boston, got lost (even with a gps talker-thingy in the car), & found our way to my friend, laura's home. she is nearly my oldest friend who i'm still in contact with, i went to high school with her, she shaved a good hunk of hair a bit too short (remember when shaving the third bottom portion of your hair was cool? well, we did that. my hair was nearly past my butt at the time & we suddenly decided it would be a good idea to get the clippers out). anyway, her & her husband & doggy & 5 months bun-in-the-oven-baby live in boston...
dave & laura TYVERGYAK. awesome couple. awesome last name.
the dude & his lady
& we went on the subway to boston saturday! we were super cool & you know, took a train downtown. b/c we are hard core folks from the cornfields of ohio...we did get to walk the freedom trail part way & go through quincy market. but again, we were cheap & didn't want to pay $$'s to hear a guide talk or to see part of a super old building (that had been remolded how many times? where the boston massacre took place, etc. we'll pay next time. or pay to bring my dad along, history man himself).
i did turn down a gluten free nasty vietnamese soup & instead we headed to mcdonald's for my dinner of french fries. thank you, revolutionary war folks for creating this wonderful country that created mcdonalds. thank you. this picture does not show all of my true feelings of bliss towards you. seriously, love those fries.
see laura's bun in the oven?! (right, bottom corner). cute, eh?!
so then it was sunday & we were all very indecisive about what to do mostly just wes & i, really. so we just went out for a ginormous late lunch-early dinner & then all of us felt sick the rest of the evening. ugh. we also watched the transformers movie--which i think was wes' favorite moment of the entire vacation. totally not kidding.
& we're back in the saddle again. amelia welcomed us home by hugging onto my dad's leg & looking at me like i was a ghost. cute kid! addy was all giggles & hugs, though, so...when the time comes to ask us 'who's your favorite kid?' you know who i'm going to say, right? (totally kidding, here. but amelia--come on! remember those 37 weeks of pregnancy & that all-nighter of back labor & the months before we figured out you had acid reflux? you should not treat your parents like that *smile*)
i think i have a few other pictures to share but that will have to wait until i can be patient enough for this blogger picture thing to upload from my picasa. argh!
it was a really fun vacation. relaxing, invigorating, just good time away. we should do it again next month...

I am glad you had fun...I had the same reaction to that stupid rock as a kid. I refused to go look at it with Chris.
ReplyDeleteNEXT MONTH???? We need at least 8 months to recuperate...... (smile, smile - they were a blast!)
