somehow wes is lucky enough to get two holidays centered around him within 2 days of each other: his birthday & father's day (so next year his birthday will be the day before, the year after that father's day & his birthday will be the same day?! am i doing the math & such correctly?). it's hard to pick which one to celebrate more but somehow this year his birthday won.
before wes left for work (this is a very revealing picture of amelia in her unsnapped onesie & pj shorts still clinging to her empty bottle, adeline with undies on--which takes intense persistence from parents (you know: GET YOUR UNDERWEAR ON NOW BEFORE I STICK A DIAPER ON YOU. now say that times 20. hello, good morning), then wes drinking coffee out of his darth vader coffee mug with socks & sandals on.
so i talked wes into opening his big gift before he left for work. what is it?!
a leaf blower! (& yes, i do think he was genuinely excited about receiving this gift...)
that evening we invited family & friends to a nearby swimming pool for a pool party. wes *loves* to swim, play in water, jump in water, etc. & he's really good at it, being a former lifeguard & all. i super hope our girls will learn from his swimming techniques instead of mine (i can do the doggy paddle & that's about it--& i'm so sure i look pretty damn awkward). OF COURSE! i don't have any pictures from this party. we even brought our camera...but totally forgot. anyway, wes & i AND OUR GIRLS had a great time. i think actually the girls had a better time than even wes did. the pool had to kick addy & a few other kids out at closing. (not "hey you punks get out of the water or i'll drown you" but more of "*ahem* the pool is closed"). i wish i had some pictures of amelia being so cold from the frigid toddler-pool water that she was just shivering but still wanted to get back in the water. or of addy seeming to dance in the water, playing with her grandma & then coming out for some food, saying hello to everyone, giving her grammum a squeeze or two (& maybe me if i was lucky) & then running back into the water. or of wes diving off the boards or grinning ear to ear after going down the huge, twisty water slide. it was a super birthday.

& these are pictures of the girls wearing lip stick. amelia immediately turned into this vogue-style fashion model, giving us some side shots, all very serious & mysterious. (notice the poison ivy on her forehead? well, she has it also on a big spot on her back but it somehow doesn't seem to bother her much).
& adeline just became a jumping bean, who would only stop for a millisecond to give us a 'kiss' shot.

father's day.
we went out for breakfast! i woke up with this determined thought that we will get to a restaurant early enough to be seated right away. we will get everyone ready within an hour. & wow--we did it! LO HICIMOS! i think it really helped that wes' mom was here to help get the girls ready, right? i knew wes would want sausage for breakfast for father's day & i was so not about to cook at 7 a.m. anyway, it just seems to be getting easier to not just get everyone ready but also to eat out. the girls were only mildly disturbing to other guests (but, funny enough, most of the other guests around us also had small babies or toddlers. it must've been a perfect time for kids to eat out).
another funny thing about the breakfast was that wes sorta got sick from it, not me! i ordered off their gluten free menu & was fine. wes didn't feel well most of the day from his meal--which is pretty sucky.

so the girls left us yesterday to go on their wild grandparent-vacation-adventure. they will be with wes' parents until friday when my parents will pick them up & keep them until next tuesday! woah! what will we do with ourselves? already the house seems eerily quiet. i mean, we cleaned the house & it stayed clean--no tornadoes of child destruction behind me. we got ready to leave for our small group in 3 minutes, got outside & were like "we're going to be 20 minutes early if we leave now" b/c with kids it would take us at least 20 minutes to get everyone in the car.
so before the girls left we took some pictures
addy corralling amelia from the car to the picture spot. & aren't our cosmos nice? wes grew them from seed!
amelia needed to be picked up & carried over...she really super wanted to leave immediately.
there was no way all of us would be looking at the camera or appearing normal at the same time
we were able to get a few pictures before amelia walked away in a huff. through the flowers. (i was already missing her by then so i didn't snatch her up & scold her as i usually would. flowers are to be appreciated, not walked on! come on children, get with it.)
adeline was feeling a bit snuggly & even whispered to wes: i want you to come on vacation with me, daddy.
what is taking everyone so long? GET IN THE CAR BEFORE I EAT YOU UP!

& today wes is using his new toy, the leaf blower & i have a few things planned. like the library (without kids)! pharmacies (without kids)! a grocery store (without kids)! lunch with a friend (without kids)! the world is my oyster (my oil filled, stinky oyster now, eh?)
so, wish us a fun 9 days without kids!

I just wrote a quick post about a couple things I'm jealous of. Had I read this post before I wrote that one, 9 days of kidless time would have been included ... though, really, we always miss the little boogers before we think we're going to. Enjoy!
