little snippets

it's mid-september already. how did this happen? time keeps going, i know. but really...the next 2 months are just going to zoom by. addy's birthday is coming up, we have soccer twice a week, i'm (barely) helping to put on a bridal shower, planning & hosting a baby shower, halloween, our anniversary, thanksgiving, helping to plan/attend a bachelorette party (how is that spelled?!), then standing in this dear friend's wedding...then it will be christmas! then new year! *sigh*

so i must take it slow. let's talk about amelia's favorite topic: poop.

when she's in the spirit of it all, she talks about how everyone poops. which is for real, right? but she will point at someone & say: POOP! & then say it again in question form, but in more of a whisper: poop? then we tell her if this person or thing poops. nannied baby boy poops? yes. addy poop? yes. griswold poop? yes. cheese poop? no. lunch  meat? no. (buttt, if we want to get technical, at one point the lunch meat was part of an animal that pooped, right?).

after dropping adeline off at school this morning amelia screamed out the window LLOOOOOOKKKKK! & pointed to a squirrel sitting by the side of the road (we were at a stop sign). then she shouted out to me: POOOOPPPP????!! yes.

amelia has brought pictures to me, in frames usually, of family members, asking me if each one poops. yes, each one poops. i guess this is a pretty cool trick to her, poop & such. adeline was really into farts at amelia's age so we do have lots of potty talk going on in this house. stimulating stuff.

totally changing the topic but, it is so dry here. we have been thinking about planting a new wee tree off the side of our house (in place of the one that just totally fell down last month. it's okay, it was a hideous tree, a smoke bush or something like that). we are thinking of a pear tree. or a pom-pom tree...for sure something that has white blooms. but can a tree survive in this dry weather? i guess we'll just be paying a bundle to water it daily.

anyone have advice on this?

so last week (or was it the week before last?) adeline asked to permission to do something, like watch tv for the 3rd straight hour. i said no. she said, "WELL SHIT!" only it sounded something like "WELLL SIT!" so i asked her what she just said & she said it all again for me, with the same scowl on her face. i asked her if she was saying shit. she said "yes, shit shit shit".

we sent her to her room to telling her we don't say that word. i didn't ask her who she heard it from (let me think: mommy, daddy, grandmas, grandpa, maybe an aunt or uncle or two? *smile* i mean, come on...it's pretty common, eh?) so she was told to think of other words to replace. on her way upstairs as she stomped she emphasized each step with another SHIT!

wes & i couldn't help but laugh but since then we've been much more careful about what we say...but at least her speech delay is coming in handy! i don't think anyone else who would hear her swear would know she was actually saying shit instead of sit (aside from her body language?).

amelia's bottle withdrawal is fierce. she hasn't slept well in a week. she's cranky & irritable, throwing tantrums constantly. she screams getting in the car seat, then while being driven around, then screams when getting out of her car seat....anytime she would've used her bottle for to soothe herself, she's throwing a fit instead. i think wes & i look haggard. amelia has been waking up around 5:15 or 5:30 every morning...wes folds himself in half to fit into her wee bed & rubs her back until she falls back asleep for another 30 minutes or a glorious hour. *sigh* when will this bottle withdrawal be over? i'm thinking of just sticking a pacifier in her mouth & calling it even.

  1. It's so hard not to giggle at toddler cursing. Rhys one night on a walk did a dead-on mimic of me going, "What the HELL?"

  2. Flowering Pear. They bloom white and don't make fruit, which can be a dreadful buggy mess without lots of work. They live well in the dry Boise climate...
