school & soccer

so today was adeline's first day of school. & in this picture she picked the prop of the school bus. wes said: let's go out on the porch & take a picture for school! addy grabbed the school bus & said: okay, i will hold this b/c it a school bus & i'm going to school!

& here's a heartbreaker, tear-jerker story:
if you click on the picture above you will see that adeline is wearing a necklace. it's mine, given to me from my mom on my high school graduation day. it's a heart locket & i wear it often for sentimental reasons & b/c i like it. so adeline was a bit sniffly about going off to school & leaving amelia & i behind. this morning, i gave her this necklace to wear & told her to hold onto it whenever she really missed me or amelia. & this is how the rest went:

addy: i will hold onto the heart b/c you in my heart, mommy.
me: oh, addy {emotional} you're in my heart, too.
addy: jesus in my heart, too, mommy. jesus will help me not be sad today.
me: {more emotional} yea, addy, jesus will help you not be sad today.
addy: yea b/c jesus love me!

then she broke out into the tune of 'jesus loves me' & stopped when amelia started to cry (mostly about her being in that terrible car seat--the torturous things we do to her, eh?) & adeline then reached her hand over to amelia & told her: god will help you feel better today if you miss me. mommy too.

how i did not cry over this conversation, i'll never know. maybe i was so stunned that adeline knew so much about love & jesus already.

anyway. so it was a big day. 1st day of school! 1st day of soccer practice!

addy also desperately wanted to wear a hat of mine to school. & make silly faces.

i going to miss you, miwee!

amelia has this foreboding look, my best friend is leaving me for 2 1/2 hours! oh my gosh. they suddenly decided to start addy's preschool class (only!) another 10 minutes earlier, at 8:15 a.m. which means we have to be out of  the house by 8. argh shit argh.

so we drove to school, i walked her up to the door & she was so quiet on the walk up, right after she jabbered the whole way there about how much she was going to miss us, etc & *begged* me to walk her to the door & into her classroom & specifically to help her open her locker, please please please. so i said yes & tore the screaming amelia out of her car seat (b/c once she decides she likes it, then it's a fight to get her out *sigh*). so we walk up to the door, one of her teachers says:
teacher: addy! you're wearing such a great hat! i love it, so cute.
addy : it's my mommy's. i also wearing sparkles on my shirt. see my new shoes? i don't 'member how open my locker. see my dora pack-pack?

then she simply waved BEHIND HER BACK to me. she didn't even turn around! my child, so brave & fashion focused. she had a wonderful first day of school.

amelia cried the entire way back to the car. she fought me like i was satan getting her buckled into the car seat. she cried the entire way home, only stopping when i asked her what she wanted to do when we got home. 'walk. stoller. walk. stoller' we made it halfway around the block when she told me firmly "go.home.go.home" & then we went home & she played in the strollers, buckling herself in each one, asking me to unbuckle her, then jumping into another, etc...

soccer

i'm not sure addy quite knew what she was getting herself into with this soccer business. she's been really excited about it but suddenly today she was terrified...until! she came downstairs looking like this:

& told me: i got ready for soccer, mommy! see my pretty necklace & bracelets?

then i knew she had *no clue* what soccer actually is...a sports game. but it went pretty good, actually. she had fun, cried when we said it was time to go--all good signs!

& this is actually a practice game. love it!

but guess who was the most enthusiastic to run out onto the soccer field & kick a ball?!
that's right: amelia.

i can't believe she's in year 2 of school & season 1 of soccer.

  1. What a sweetheart you have! I am amazed and touched by how sweet and knowing toddlers and preschoolers can be. They become such complicated little beings so soon.
