this weekend...i had this song in my head most of the weekend. i tried to convince wes all week how amazingly grumpy amelia has been. true, he believed me at the time. then he doubled his belief after being home all day with amelia saturday, mostly being a single dad (b/c i felt like utter crap--more on that later). ugh. poor kid, 4 cuspid teeth following each other & sorta at the same time apparently hurts? i want my happy amelia back!
this week we also were due to host our small group. not a big deal--it's usually a good time...except the 40 minutes adeline screams b/c she's overwhelmed by so many people at our house. so she'll get into her bed (per our prodding & plopping her down in her bed *smile*) & cry some more...then she'll finally calm down, come downstairs, eat, then play some more with the kids, crying when they all leave. then ask incessantly when they will all be coming over again b/c "it was so fun, mommy!" yes, adeline, that's what i think until you scream bloody murder in your bedroom...
btw, adeline loves her new hair cut. i love it. wes loves it. PLUS! since she gave her cut hair to locks of love, her next trim is free! the hair cut got even sweeter, my friends. and she says everyone at school 'they like my hair cuts, mommy!' i'm sure they do, adeline.

the main problem this weekend was me being in pain. on thursday at my appointment with dr im he decided, with my approval & pleas, that it was best to go off of celebrex, a pain medication to treat arthritis & similar pain (ahem, fibromyalgia, etc) b/c it was just not working anymore & was giving me a serious stiff neck soon after i took it & then encouraged my stomach & intestines to rid themselves of all the contents every once in awhile. so. then he decided that my adrenal fatigue is causing a lot of the pain & wrote an over-the-counter script for a few adrenal supplements available mostly from this wholistic vitamin store a few towns over. then he said to only take extra strength tylenol for the pain & we'll see in a few months how this is doing.
so i took his advice, got these intense adrenal supplements (only one was in stock, the other is back ordered--of course!) & stopped taking celebrex. thing is, the one supplement has wheat in it. what?! dr im said not to worry about it, that it's such a small amount it shouldn't affect me. i was hesitant but told myself to believe in the doctor. WRONG. i woke up saturday morning with stomach cramps, diarrhea, headache, head fog, & then i could barely move b/c of not being on a NSAID (like celebrex) for over 30 hours or more. which is why wes was nearly a single parent for the weekend...
& this went on until last night. no worries, i stopped taking that wheat-filled supplement saturday night & called dr im to tell him about his oh-so-wrong thoughts. he said to take another NSAID for now (mobic), stop taking the supplement (duh), start taking the other one when it's in, & to see him in 2 months or if i'm nearly immobile again. i don't know what to think about it all right now. i'll wait until this brain fog lifts & then i'll think about it (just call me scarlett).
frack. freakin'-a. whatever you may say. suck!

anyway. so we then decided to install a water feature in our house! i mean, that's the optimistic way of looking at this next, uh, situation...
right as the grill was starting up on sunday afternoon, while 15+ folks & kids at our house, our downstairs hallway light starts to flicker. wes & i look at it for a second, think the light bulb is going out (so much for those new energy efficient bulbs, i thought), turn the light out & go on our way. ten minutes later aaron crawford shouted to wes & i: YOUR LIGHT IS LEAKING! I MEAN, WATER IS COMING OUT OF THE LIGHT! YOUR CEILING IS LEAKING!
what?
so i ran into the hallway & sure enough, there was a substantial stream of water coming OUT OF THE LIGHT! what the hell? so i run upstairs thinking that some kid has drowned playing in our tub, shower, sink, or toilet upstairs. there was nothing leaking in the girls' bathroom nor was a kid playing around with the water stuff. so i run into the master bathroom & sure enough--plunk--walk right into a large puddle of water. frack frack frack.
it's the damn toilet from satan. this toilet takes all your might to flush. sometimes it will run forever. this time, oh, this time it was SPRAYING water out the top. apparently that do-jobber popped off after the last flush a few hours earlier. so the tank filled up & then just overflowed, naturally. i lifted the lid off the tank to find water spraying & over flowing & just starting swearing & praying at the same time. i'm sure god is okay with that, all things considered. right? right.
wes was so calm. he's amazing. by 9 p.m. he had drilled holes, had a few fans & heaters on the wet ceiling & had even given us an estimate to fix it--$15. i am guessing it will be more like $500 or whatever but he does know his home improvement stuff, so maybe more like $30. anyway. argh! this is not what we need right now.
everyone at our house was so helpful. someone mopped the floor with towels, others helped wes take the bowl-like light fixture off, just to get soaked themselves (including their diaper bags & shoes which had been sitting right under the water fountain), another took over the grill without even being asked...gotta love friends, eh?
every time i walk by this 4 foot section of water damage & the missing light with dangling wires (that are sealed off or something like that) i just want to cuss again & again. i'm not sure what wes thinks...maybe something like "oohh, another challenge!" b/c he's so weird like that. *smile* what else, though? what now? what next?
no wonder my adrenal system is over taxed! no wonder our savings account dwindles instead of growing! (something i never thought wes & i would have to say, btw...we are the thrifty type, not the spenders).
so after all this, we are sending the girls to their grandparents for the weekend. i can't take any more of the teething, home shittiness, constant pain & toilet runs...i need a break before our vacation (still 2 months away).
like the song, the beat goes on...wes has this slow beat that just keeps going at a steady rate. i love that in him. mine gets all crazy & whacked out with each new obstacle, which is okay too. i dunno. i just want a different beat, maybe? a lighter one for awhile. one without drama & unwelcome water features.

I really like your metaphor about the beats each of you have. The divide is about the same in our marriage.
